"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Less comical part of the HB Gary vs. Anonymous thing:

As Jenny Holzer noted, "Abuse of power comes as no surprise." Though I am still naively surprised at the close intertwine of government and corporations to effect policies that are not subject to democratic scrutiny.

Note to self: Be even more cynical.

Go, msbelle!

Go, Liese! Task!

Kathy, do that self-eval.

ION, Matilda had pigtails this morning and was quite pleased with herself. "Teacher Helen, do you like my pigtails?"

There's fishing for a compliment, and then there's cornering one and shooting it in the face.

Because books.

Was yours out by the old torn-out railroad tracks with that cute boy you always had UST with but never hooked up?

YES!

Well, no. It was with Ingrid R., a frenemy (the one who liked to call herself the beauty and me the brains), behind Cosimo's, the pizza place, in the alley. With many, man Marlboro Lights. But I did once make out with a cute boy I crushed on back there!

I should probably turn off Memory Lane now.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Interesting - the news this morning was saying that the military had stated they were in support of Mubarak.

According to an Egyptian friend of mine, the law in Egypt is that, in every family that has at least two sons, at least one of them has to join the army, so the army is generally seen as more representative of the people than the police, who are appointed by the government.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

According to the radio (MSNBC), the military went to Mubarak last night and told him it was over. As in, if he didn't step down, soldiers were going to start donning civilian clothes and join the protesters.

Interesting - the news this morning was saying that the military had stated they were in support of Mubarak.

So which is it?

hip deep in pie

So which is it?

Would it help that the CBC were talking about a split in the military this AM?

Your Sex Questions Answered (Jan, 1959)

I have a feeling that in the 1950s Sexology was one of the few places people could get reasonable, non-judgmental, fact-based help about sexual issues.

This is sad:

I can't have any children because I had an operation when I was 29 years old and everything was removed except my womb. The doctors said it was a healthy organ and since I was still comparatively young, he would leave it in.

I have heard that doctors are replacing missing organs with plastic or some synthetic materials, and that they do function as before. If this is true please advise me as to where I can secure the vital information concerning such an operation.

the news this morning was saying that the military had stated they were in support of Mubarak.

I think "support" might be overstating it. There was a statement yesterday supporting the delegation of power to Suleiman, when people were hoping they'd explicitly back the protesters at that point. I think officially they tried to be restrained because, well, not everyone agreed -- there were some officers joining the protesters, and I assume others were personally backing Mubarak.
