This girl at school? She told me that gelatin is made from ground-up cow's feet and that every time you eat Jell-O there's some cow out there limping around without any feet. But I told her that I'm sure the cow is dead before they cut its feet off, right?

Back tattoos of the mother is that you are absolutely right - Ame

In less scary news - I found these shoes at TJ Maxx. The original price was $129 with a TJ Maxx price of $69.95. But they were on clearance for just $20. They are surprisingly quite comfy.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

Stay safe, shrift.

Occasionally I’m callous and strange

one of my friends got shot leaving my apartment in Richmond. Dude pointed a gun at him and said "gimme your car keys" and like a dumbass my friend turned around and ran, keys still in hand. And got shot in the back (missed anything major, he's fine aside from 2 little scars and the humiliation of being a cautionary tale). Lesson i learned: throw your keys at the bad guy's face, THEN run like hell.

eta: and i moved soon after, and managed to go 10 years before either of my parents found out.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

I was robbed at gunpoint once while delivering pizzas for Domino's. They got two large pizzas, an insulated bag, and $17 in ones.

Afterwards, I drove half a block to the nearest pay phone, called my manager, then called 911. The police took 25 minutes to respond, listened to my story, and had zero interest in seeing the actual location in the apartment complex where the robbery took place.

Instead, they came back to the store with me, talked to the manager briefly, and left. We never heard anything more about it from them. Later, the manager told me they had spent most of the time with him trying to get him to say I might have called in a false report. Pissed me off no end.

In non-robbery, non-shooting news, I met my invisible Internet blogger tonight for the Orphée opera thing and was not axe-murdered! In fact, I had a pretty good time and met some other bloggers on the classical music/opera circuit. They were all super sweet even though I felt like a total poseur with them (since all the performers, publicists, etc. kept making a point of coming over to chat with "us").

(oh sure yay for not being ax murdered)

Oh, I was just in work clothes, which was fine. It was all pretty casual. The blogger I was most nervous about meeting actually turned out to be quite shy (and so not intimidating at all). She had also read my blog and put me right at ease. (ETA: There was a reception afterwards which gave everybody a chance to chat)

But were they scruffy chic work clothes? :)
