Spike's Bitches 46: Don't I get a cookie?
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
Yay, smonster! Congrats to you on new possibilities - wherever they may lead.
Erin, I hope and pray that you're sleeping right now and not even close to waking up.
Speaking of doctors and the like, are all antibiotics for UTIs nowadays the sort that cause joint and tendon pain the entire time you're on them? I told the doc No Levaquin because it kicked my ass the one time I was on it years ago. She assured me that what she was prescribing would be ok and it so isn't. It's like Levaquin just changed its name to Macrobid. And today was only day three of this crap (four more to go).
ION- the elevator in my building is STILL broken. SEVEN days!
Ack. I can't imagine there isn't some sort of code violation in this situation. What *if* you or anyone else in the building was in a wheelchair?
I'm on crutches, my neighbor is in a scooter. Not sure how ambulatory she is, or how often she ventures out. I'm looking to see if there is any law on it, but not finding much. It's only a 4 story building. Just happens I'm on floor 3.
Ugh. Cold has turned into wheezing. Also, totally lost my voice. I think I might be calling in sick tomorrow.
Best of luck to you tomorrow, Maria!
Great news, Spidra!
smonster, great news about the job, and good luck!

You people taunt me with your sleep discussion at the moment. At 00:38 last night/today, my friend with the technical advices of video editing realised he didn't understand what I was trying to do, so I couldn't just burn the files I was editing for a few days (some of them are out of sync. Damn you, .avi). And I'm giving the training-wheels lecture in less than an hour and a half (which left me with humm, 5 hours of sleep of less - oh, and the "training wheels lecture" is the practice of the lecture I give to friends to make sure I'll be doing alright in the lecture itself), and already had to take a pill for the headache of the lack of sleep.
omnis, sorry about the elevator saga. I know nothing of U.S. laws, but isn't anyone in the building to talk with about it?
Thanks, Shir. It's definitely good news for me and I hope it helps more people discover the album.
I hope you get caught up on sleep.
Omnis, I seriously recommend getting or checking out from the library a Nolo book on your rights as a renter. [link]
Court~ma to MFNlaw
I was skimming through the NOLO in Google Books. Barely any mention of elevator. The thing is, I'm guessing since a lot of buildings don't have them, it's not like it's required by law to have them, unlike say a working toilet. Hmmm, I wonder if this is something I can use my new benefits package. I have legal coverage.
Well, we discovered at 10pm last night that our bedroom light doesn't switch off. We had a remote control fitted for it when the electricians were in last week, so that I don't have to get out of bed to turn off the light - it's an added luxury, but one that we knew would be so helpful to me. Unfortunately, the luxury proved something of a curse when the 'off' button on the remote didn't work and the lights were on all bloody night. My PA is currently sleeping in the only other room that we can get into. Not good for the sleep disorder. If we can't get the electricians to come back today, we're moving to a motel for a couple of nights - between that, and not being able to unpack until the floors are finished, and The Girl being horribly allergic to all the dust that's still everywhere till the builders are done, we might not be actually able to live here for a bit longer. On the plus side, The Girl and my PA are setting up my desk in my little study! It's really very little! Desk may be all that fits in there! But it's mine. So that's very nice. (The Girl keeps shouting things like "What is this part FOR?" I shall take her out to breakfast shortly to thank her for IKEA madness.)
Yay, Perkins! Continued health~ma for you.
smonster, huge congrats on the job offer. Good decision~ma.
I'd be training/mentoring newbie carpenters, people who've been chronically unemployed or who are transitioning back into society.
That's so cool! I used to teach basic English to younger people from those kinds of backgrounds. I absolutely loved it.
Very good luck with the practice lecture, Shir.
omnis, I've missed part of this saga - is your building manager refusing to fix your elevator? You might have an ADA case there. I won a DDA case because my building management company wouldn't install an automatic door to my building. Don't know how similar the two laws are, in relation to property - the DDA's quite good about small adjustments to residential property, such as fixing things and minor installations. So it wouldn't require a landlord to install a new elevator where there wasn't one, but it might require quick fixing of one that's already there. (Might. It's a bit of a vague law, the DDA.)
Erin, that's so great. Hope you got some sleep last night, as a result.
I have to find a doctor this week. It usually takes one or two false starts with GPs who either find me too knowledgeable about my own condition (sigh) or are clearly too afraid of my condition to be much use (double sigh). Here's hoping for one like Erin's lovely senior doctor.
Edited to take out an excruciating number of exclamation points. Apparently sleep deprivation makes me hyperactive.
omnis, I've missed part of this saga - is your building manager refusing to fix your elevator? Not refusing, just taking forever. Apparently, from what I've gathered from a couple sources, the owner of the building had to get an estimate from the repair company, so that added two days to the process. By the time he approved, and the management company notified the elevator company, it was late in the day, so I'm guessing the order didn't make the cut off for fed ex(??) And apparently this elevator company is notorious for bad fix jobs, slow work, and general bad attitudes. But the owner insists on using this company. So the Property Management folk are stuck between a rock and a hard place. But all I care about is a working elevator. They put up signs on Friday that promised it would be working Monday. I took them for their word, and picked up a sack of groceries, only to get home and see the elevator still out of whack. Then had to hike up to the 3rd level (floor 2 for the Brits and Aussies in the house) with a full sack of groceries. So glad I didn't do a full shopping trip (whole basket). That would have been 5 or 6 trips, and would have killed me.
I like the building. I like the location (well for traffic, it's proximity is eh) and the neighbors are all nice. But the elevator is really pissing me off. And I'm still paying off the move TO here, and can't really afford to move out just now. And not sure if it warrants that level yet. And would really not want to move just as the school year is starting up.
