Woman! Have you done a sleep study? It's possible the sleep you're getting at night is shite.
Um, no? I don't snore, though. I think I just...like to sleep. But a sleep study is on my list of "I should probably do one of those someday" things.
YAY job offer, smonster! But...$6K less? Time to start bargaining! You know you don't have to just take their offer!! Even if they're a nonprofit! Women do that, and they're at a disadvantage!
Erin, I'm really glad you found a doctor who helped you. I have no idea what is going on with that other doctor but you don't want her as your GP.
Heck if it were me, once I got some sleep, I'd be making calls to find out if I could file some sort of complaint against her.
You went nearly 2 days without sleep and she can't return your phone call? Even if she thought you were just drug seeking she should be ... I don't know...acting like a doctor trying to help you.
Yay, Perkins!!!
And yay, smonster!!!

Also, THIS.
Also, other dr. has not called me back. Guess what? I ain't getting stabbed. Bite me bitca. Lost my bizness.
Honestly, I think you should let her know why you're ditching her ass. Someone who doesn't believe in listening to the patients and working WITH them needs to get called out on it. "MD" does not stand for "Me, deity."
The job ad stated a 5k range, and they offered me 1k from the top, to go up to the top after 90 days. It's way more than I made when I last worked as a carpenter (like over 2x more) and honestly, I think it's fair. It's a step back from what I've been doing, and I knew I was probably looking at a paycut. And hey, it's sure better than the $11k Americorps stipend I've been seeing posted for similar jobs.
my post above went weird.
but yay not ya for smonster
and a yayayayay for perkins
I would still ask for a small uptick. "I would really like to take it, but can you see your way to top plus 1 or 2k?" They may come back with "this is the best we can do", and I would decide ahead of time if you're willing to live with it.
My current job is the first one where I made myself counter-offer, even though I was desperate to get out of my job at the time. I did it because I was tired of kicking myself all the time for never having done it before. And it makes a huge difference.
They offered X + 5k bonus potential. I came back and said I would really be more comfortable with (X + 5k) + 5k bonus potential. They came back to me with (X + 5k) + 2k bonus potential and I snapped it up.
The thing to remember is that anything you get up front just compounds. So I didn't just get an extra 5K that year, I've gotten that every year since. And percentage based increases are starting from 5K higher than they would otherwise.
The fact that women are, generally speaking, not encouraged/socialized/confident doing this kind of thing is a big reason for the persistance of the pay gap.
smonster, is the cost of living significantly lower in Nola? I had to take a 6K paycut when I came here, and it sucked, but the cheapness of child care made it less sucky. (Well, that and the fact that mr. flea had a JOB after 6 years of grad school.)
Maybe, Smonster, you could go along the lines of "if you can guarantee me the big easy I can live without the cash"
but, you know, in nice words
Oh, and smonster..
