Spike's Bitches 46: Don't I get a cookie?

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I know that I don't really know what I'm doing when it comes to cleaning a house. When I was growing up, we had housecleaners who came once a week or once every other week, and they were usually there when I was at school, so I really didn't know the actual details of what they did. My old apartment pretty much reflected that -- I hired people to clean when I moved out, and they charged extra because it was so dirty. I know to clean up food stuff, but dust and dirt just accumulate, and I don't really know what to do about it. So, like the good geek I am, I looked on amazon and bought a book about "The Art & Science of Keeping House." It's a huge book with tiny print that seems to tell how to take care of everything. I just read the section on vacuuming. She says that the best thing is to vacuum every day, but if that's not possible, then at least vacuum the whole house once a week, and on in-between days, vacuum one or two rooms, so that each room will get done two or three times a week. Do people actually do this?

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Do people actually do this?

Hells no.

If I want to become a cloud of bats, does each bat need a separate vaccination?

Do people actually do this?

Maybe if they're taking a lot of speed?

In a good month, I vacuum every other weekend. With my allergies, I really should be dusting at least once a week too, but I hate dusting with a white hot burning passion, so instead I just sneeze a lot.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

I find my hardwood floors need swiffering and cleaning pretty frequently- I basically do it when it seems too dirty for me to be comfortable. Here, it's fairly frequently. I just sort of do it in spurts when the mood hits me. Not in any organized fashion.

Not if you have a full time job and are tired when you get home. But then again, my tolernce level for mess is rather high.

Um. Yeah, I'm not much when it comes to house cleaning. I've been in my apartment now almost 3 months, I vacuumed once (for my mom's visit last weekend). My apartment in Dallas, in the 2 years there, I vacuumed about 3 or 4 times. Not to say I am the model to follow, but, giving you additional data to create the mental chart of what is average.

My mother did. She did not pass this gene on to me.

Ack. I just tried looking at that site, and my ADD-brain freaked out. Way too many colors and pictures and links at once. I'll look again tomorrow, when I'm less tired and maybe better able to figure it out.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I have it in my head that getting all vacuumable surfaces vacuumed once a month is a good goal. Pretty sure that's based on nothing at all.

Flylady is pretty much love it or hate it. I hate it (which I say just to say, not just you). But I know and love people it's really worked for, who haven't had much luck getting their places together otherwise.
