Happy Independance Day, Merkins!

um, I only know one definition for merkin, and I wouldn't use it to describe a friend. Am I missing something?

I have indeed been to Sucre: see blog entry [link] Wow, it's been almost exactly a year.

Actually, the rose and violet chocolates are being sold at Rouse's (on Tchoup, at least)and Whole Foods, which makes temptation very hard to overcome. I will, however, endeavor to try Jilli's favorites in the near future and report back.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

It's an old-timey way of mocking how someone with an American accent says "American." I saw it a lot in Victorian-era British stuff when I was doing a research project in college. I don't think there's any link to the other meaning of merkin. (I think whoever came up with this must have been talking to people from Baltimore, since the accent that turns Maryland into Merlin seems like the one that would turn American into Merkin.)

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

How fun, bt. Glad you had such a lovely day.

I went back to bed for a couple of hours, and am now up again.

Can I take a poll? St.W said at the end of the night Saturday that he'd call me, and he hasn't. It's only been a day and a half, but I'm chafing and feeling neurotic and yeah, I'd like to see him tonight. He assured me that he had a good time, despite the shenanigans, but like I said, I'm feeling neurotic. If I sent him a text along the lines of "Did you find a good place to watch fireworks tonight?" is that a) a nice subtle opening for him to invite me along, if he wants to or b) passive aggressive and needy? If he's having second thoughts, I'd rather know now, you know?

My reasoning is, if I text him, it obviates any possibility that I'm having second thoughts, and the onus is on him to respond or not, and I think I'll be able to be productive and distract myself. But I wanted another opinion or three... feeling the need for a little hivemind objectivity.

I think that the text is passive agressive. I might be more aggressive and say "I'm going to X to watch the fireworks, let me know if you want to come (or have a better place)"

But then, I'm single, so what the hell do I know.

I think you should text him, it seems like a reasonable thing to say/do. I don't think it's passive aggressive or needy.

(ha, I was gonna say, I'm married and don't deal with this stuff anymore, what do I know?)

One of the reasons I don't think it's passive aggressive is that you're new in town, so you actually don't know this stuff.

Yeah, I mean, I don't really know a good place to watch the fireworks. And we had talked about it a bit the other night.

I don't fucking know. I'm actually pacing in my kitchen. Sometimes I really wish that I wasn't so quick to fall for people, but it is what it is and I am who I am.

Ooooh.

Even more oooh! Really, I'm just motivated by the rose and violet chocolates. Those are my holy grails of chocolate flavors.

smonster, I would send a text, but not that text. I'd just say something like "Hey, have a good 4th!"
