Spike's Bitches 46: Don't I get a cookie?

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

I'm finding my time in fandom distressingly applicable to commenting in the political arena

There's a famous researcher named Jenkins. Not sure if you've heard of him. Anyhow, this is what he has to say (seriously) about fan culture and politics. [link]

So I read Grammar Girl on farther vs further and I understand farther refers to physical distance and further metaphorical. Although a lot of people think it's OK to use the words interchangaby I still try to be as correct as possible. Is time physical or metaphorical? Did Marty McFly go farther or further back in time?

I didn't know that! Great to know. Anyhow, to me, time is a metaphorical concept. Just feels more metaphorical, that's all.

Mom: "If you had to choose between us and [GF], who would you pick?"
Brother: "That's a stupid question. I'm not going to answer that. It would be like me asking you to pick between me and [my sister]."
Mom: "Right now, honestly, I would pick [your sister] because at least she is being good and listens to us."

And then he hung up on her because, you know, what the fuck. She called back and said that he asked her to choose, so she chose, which is a bullshit answer. She told him to focus on his studies, that's all she wants now. And later sent him a text that she loves him and is sorry for hurting his feelings.

P-C, your mom wins over every Jewish Mama I can think of. You really should write that book.

And now... drum roll I am to choose my classes for next year! Woo-hoo! Really excited. (Well, some house chores first. But then... choosing classes!).

Flowers are messy and covered in pesticides and a lot of people are allergic to them - I stand fully with the hospitals on preferring balloons.

The mylar ones, not the rubbery ones -- those sometimes have latex, which a lot of people are allergic to.

I got to campus and realized I'd left all my class notes at home. Luckily, I had time to drive back home and get them, but still, ugh.

But latex allergens aren't airborne - you'd have to touch the balloon to have a reaction.

I remember seeing some article about how hospitals didn't want latex balloons -- also something about how they could be a hazard if they popped or after they deflated. I don't remember all the details.

You don't want to let the mylar ones loose outside, though, because they're hard on power lines.

Also balloons kill turtles. Send a card!

The latex ones shouldn't be let loose outside, either, because when they deflate, animals can choke on them.

Send a card made of post-consumer recycled paper with soy ink!

Send one of those plantable cards! The ones with seeds embedded in the paper, so that you can put the whole card in some soil and water it and flowers will grow!

Wait. We started this with the problems with flowers. Hmm.
