Just got back from lunch with friends at Pies'n'Thighs, which more than fully delivered on its promise of pie and fried chicken goodness. I had chicken-n-waffles with a slice of blueberry sour cream pie for dessert, and a house made lemon soda. Nom nom nom.
To maintain the illusion that we have raised a compliant and good-natured child, Dylan was allowed to play on his iPod Touch the entire 2 hours we were there. Tozzle & BurpFree FTW!
I am babysitting the dojo baby. He is just over 2 years old and has been great. Got him around 9am, we colored and walked to Panera for lunch. Now he is playing with the cat tree - Miss Kitty ignores it for the most part, so whatever.
His mom is pregnant and just found out she will be having a girl. Wheee! Another baby to play with.
Once he goes home, I'm off to the store for some plain yogurt and golden raisins. Going to mix them with cubed cucumber(CSA), dill (CSA), and garlic. NOM!!!
Mm, SuziQ, sounds delish. So does Vortex`s chicken. Bet it smells good too.
I love garlic but not roasted garlic, so that trick won`t work for me. But garlic keeps by itself pretty well if you have a dark cool place. We harvested all our garlic last month and it`ll be good pretty much through February or March when it`ll start to sprout regardless of how well I`ve stored it. Admittedly my climate is drier than yours mostly, but garlic is in general a good keeper. I usually have on hand all the things Vortex mentioned, and if I don`t use them I throw them in the freezer until stock making time. The next time I make stock l`m going to can it instead of freeze it, for easier use. Same with spaghetti sauce, and the salsa verde if I can ever find tomatillos again.
One of my favourite freezing tricks is to pour the ends of bottles of wine into sandwich bags and freeze them. Then whenever you need a glass or so of vino for a recipe, you can just throw it in. Especially useful after a party.
Ooh, that`s a great trick. I know you`re also supposed to be able to freeze fresh herbs in ice cube trays, but I`ve never tried it.
I've started freezing little baggie-size portions of the Daiya "Mozzarella Style Shreds" (fake cheese made from safflower oil and flax seed that is actually live cultured with whatever yeast it is that produces authentic mozzarella smell and taste). That's because, being live cultured and all, it goes off much faster than I can finish a regular bag of it.
Personally I would much rather have a pap smear than a dental cleaning. Signed, possibly has teeth issues.
Casper and I are going to roller derby tonight! Poor mr. flea gets to stay home and watch a movie with two 4 year old boys. I wonder if we have any beer.
Oh, amyth, how difficult. Thoughts are with your family.
Healing ma to Drew.
My love to amyth and her family.
