Tara: Do you have any books on robots? Giles: Oh, yes, dozens. There's a lot of research to be done in order to--no, I'm lying. Haven't got squat. I just like watching Xander squirm.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

there was also "The Wind Done Gone" from the POV of the slaves/freed slaves, right?

That was ruled to be satire in the copyright case brought by MItchell's heirs.

Love The Red Tent.

You know who would know the proper literary term to use? T-Rex. He could illustrate it for us amusingly by conversing with his dinosaur friends, and perhaps a tiny elephant.

Whoa, okay. I just caught up on the whole bandom-adjacent mess that I think Jilli mentioned earlier, and it does not surprise me that band involved was All Time Low. Their fans are craxy to the max.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

That's funny -- the only thing I know about that band is they are my coworker's daughter's favorite, and she (coworker) randomly had a drink with the lead singer once when she took her daughter to a show. She didn't know who he was until after.

Um, Jesse, that is pretty weird, because the same thing happened with a coworker of mine and her daughter. Perhaps the ATL guy makes a practice of drinking with moms?

Well, she said the bar was pretty empty, due to the show being all kids! And there's not really any reason for the lead singer to be at the bar, so maybe he really does?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

"Published" "fic" is something more like an homage or an "in the style of" or a licensing arrangement. "Fan Fiction" is more like something written by fans to amuse themselves and their friends.

What about unpublished fic that writers would like to get remunerated for writing? Is it fic while unpublished? How do we know what it is by looking at it on fanfiction.net or AO3?

I admit that I am not a fan of All Time Low. I don't enjoy their music, and most things I hear involve douchebaggery, although they're all pretty damn young, so...

Their fans, however, freak the shit out of me, and you won't catch me near a concert venue if they're playing.

Because books.

The majority of fic is written about copyrighted works, though, and permission to make a profit off someone else's characters isn't usually going to happen. The difference is maybe when you get a gig writing licensed novels, like the Buffy or SPN tie-ins.

RPF/S is never going to get published, unless the names are changed, so unless writers decide to charging other fans to read online content, I'd say renumeration is just not forthcoming.

Is it here that I saw the All American Rejects version of Britney Spear's Womanizer (All TIme Low reminds me of All American Rejects because of the name).

I find it hysterical, except that I am occasionally weirded out because the lead singer looks JUST LIKE my ex boyfriend. (well probably not now, because ex boyfriend is over 40 now, but still...)
