I tried googling Newark and Nerk to see what I got, and just about every reference to pronouncing it Nerk is for the one in Ohio.

Well, I grew up twenty miles from there and rode in and out of that station for years, Hil, and the way I heard it always had very little, if any, "oo" sound. Not that it really matters.

As did I.
Not that it really matters.
Yeah.
And then when I comprehended it, all I could think was, "weremonkey."
Don't make me snort at work. It's not professional.
Would it be okay, hivemind, to wear a denim skirt to work on casual Friday? Jeans are okay, and people wear t-shirts, which I would never do, and running shoes, which I also wouldn't.
Just had an all-IT meeting. Did the demographics. Over 50 people, 8 women. 4 black people, two women, two men. What a minority I am.
CIO used two pop culture slides in her presentation, including one Lost reference. One day I will slip in Princess Bride or Buffy or Batman. Or maybe I won't.
I used a bunch of Buffy sound clips in my English presentations in high school. I mean, come on, we were talking about Machiavelli; I had to invoke Giles and Xander.
If jeans are okay, then a denim skirt is totally acceptable.

I can't work out why I'm so hesitant. I guess because I haven't seen one yet. I've worn shorter non-denim skirts, so that's not the proper source of the hesitation. I'm just kinda tired of my jeans.
Buffy-well, Willow actually-came up in a meeting today. We were talking about how our team is kinda having to be dicks until people follow our procedures. We really need them to because our team has been so pared down that we can't have last minute stuff just pop up. We don't have enough people to handle it, so we have to really be shitheads about deadlines and such.
Boss lady and I almost at the same time: "A vague disclaimer is nobody's friend."

That was going to be my question -- if the skirt is generally work-appropriate or not.

I WANT TO WORK SOMEWHERE THAT COOL. Of course, you kind of have pop culture written into your contract. I'm sure if I talked to the guys over the cube wall I could trade quotes all day if I picked the right shows. But they're not on my team.
Truth be told, I'm still not ready to out myself in full to those I work with every day, though I've mentioned offhand some, uh, preoccupation with the Lord of the Rings mmovies. At my last job, someone who never identified themselves left a Buffy book in my cube. At the job before that it was an anonymous gift of a Gollum statue. I wonder if anyone here wants to give me Supernatural stuff...

Coveragewise, yeah. It's no more worn than the jeans I've seen people wear. Less than a lot, in fact.
