Zoe: Next time we smuggle stock, let's make it something smaller. Wash: Yeah, we should start dealing in those black-market beagles.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Boss lady and I almost at the same time: "A vague disclaimer is nobody's friend."

I WANT TO WORK SOMEWHERE THAT COOL. Of course, you kind of have pop culture written into your contract. I'm sure if I talked to the guys over the cube wall I could trade quotes all day if I picked the right shows. But they're not on my team.

Truth be told, I'm still not ready to out myself in full to those I work with every day, though I've mentioned offhand some, uh, preoccupation with the Lord of the Rings mmovies. At my last job, someone who never identified themselves left a Buffy book in my cube. At the job before that it was an anonymous gift of a Gollum statue. I wonder if anyone here wants to give me Supernatural stuff...

eta:

if the skirt is generally work-appropriate or not.

Coveragewise, yeah. It's no more worn than the jeans I've seen people wear. Less than a lot, in fact.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I need some hivemind help. I am working on a grant application and want to say that we provide help for employees from other countries in obtaining visas and acclimating themselves.. It has to be in governmentese. This is what I have now, which sucks and is redundant: We have worked with employees from diverse nationalities in providing support and assistance with work visas and other assistance.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

Of course, you kind of have pop culture written into your contract.

I'm fairly sure it played a large part in my hiring.

You'll be happy to know, boss lady has directed copy writer to write a blog post we're tentatively calling "Smart People Being Smart" With shows like Justified, White Collar and Leverage.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

Scrappy, that sounds like a tailor-made Allyson question to me.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Scrappy, I'd go more with your description of what you're trying to say: We assist employees from various countries in obtaining work visas and acclimating themselves to US culture. Or something.

Coveragewise, yeah. It's no more worn than the jeans I've seen people wear. Less than a lot, in fact.

Then I don't see why it wouldn't be fine.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

We have worked with employees from diverse nationalities in providing support and assistance with work visas and other assistance.

We have provided support to employees from diverse nationalities in obtaining work visas and other assistance.

Or something like that. Might help if you could be more specific about the type of assistance.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

if the skirt is generally work-appropriate or not.

For me the only question would be length / coverage. I've worn totally appropriate denim skirts at jobs where jeans were never appropriate, so...

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I think that as long as it's not too short, it would be appropriate anywhere jeans are appropriate. Or, what Cass said.

hip deep in pie

The acclimating part is generally referred to as "settlement".

Modifying Dana's:

We have provided support to employees from diverse nationalities in obtaining work visas and with settlement in their new communities.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I wore a denim skirt to my Oxford interview. Twenty years later I'm suddenly getting all appropriate?

My god, I can't believe my mother let me wear that. My blouse was very pretty, though.

I need more steel-toed shoes and more denim skirts, I'm suddenly convinced. But I don't need more shoes. And I don't need more clothes.
