(Desperately wanted "Don't You Forget About Me" as our class song, but the stiffs in charge of Student Gov't thought "We've Only Just Begun" would be an oh-so-apropos choice. *gag*)
My version of that story has that stupid Tevin Campbell friendship song winning out over Guy's "Let's Chill."

Our class song: "You can Ring My Bell" by Anita Ward.
but the Bee Gees were far too old and hairy and dentally intimidating to play the brother act for pre-teens.
That just made me laugh and laugh.
I can remember the scandal in my very proper Catholic school when the Girls on Film video came out. Nothing like the complete eruption that took place when my best friend celebrated her birthday by having a sleep over and then having her parents take a group of pre-teen girls to the movies to see Purple Rain a few years later, but still!

Yeah, if I catch Purple Rain on cable and JZ is watching she gets a) transfixed; b) a look of mild guilty shame for all the dirty thoughts she's having about Prince during "I Would Die 4 U."
My first favorite song!
You would've loved my prom then.
I probably wouldn't have gotten it... much like I didn't get that song.
Some Keith Sweat came up on my iPod earlier when I was walking around, and I almost had to sit down.
The Best of Keith Sweat cd is the truth. That is in heavy rotation on my ipod. What I really wanted was for Make it Last Forever to be our prom theme. Sadly, it was not. I don't even remember what was.
I resisted the superiority of the Boyz II Men version of Can You Stand the Rain for a long, long time because how can you beat the Johnny Gill growl, right? I was only convinced because a friend of mine, slightly obssessed with Boyz II Men, made me sit down and listen to both versions back to back repeatedly. The NE version will always have my heart, but Boyz II Men killed it vocally. NE had some serious weak links in their vocal arsenal. (Biv and Devoe, I'm looking at you)

Yep. And all with MASSIVE tours in 1984/85. I still remember people practically selling their grandmothers in order to score tickets in the Purple Circle at the Orange Bowl. U2, Def Leppard and Bruce also had ginormous tours that year. It was a crazy year.
