The sun is out!! If we didn't all wash away this weekend, I feel like we'll be OK.

My newly installed sump pump is still sucking away -- evidently there's just enough ground water in the sump pit to keep it busy while the rest of the basement floor slowly dries out.
Among the other important life lessons we've learned recently: if you filled your basement with water, that would be a whole lot of water. I don't recommend it.
If global warming doesn't get us first.
Or a mega-tsunami!
I had to listen to a whole frantic lecture from my co-worker yesterday because I won't take her seriously about the coming disaster. This one being the massive solar storm that will result in worldwide collapse of the electric grid, etc.
I suggested that since we were in the business of electronic medical records I hoped that the electric system wasn't going to die a sudden death. But I had more immediate concerns, like was there more coffee.
Then I got grilled on how much food, water, and such I had on hand for any number of disasters we were surely going to have to deal with, SOON! Sigh.
So, we really need to get to work on an alternate means of communication because no internet means no Buffistas and how are we ever going to get through the apocalypse without posting?
eta: and how to survive without editing
Yikes, Theo.
You know, I wonder how many of the people worrying about the massive solar storm refuse to believe in Global Warming/Climate Change. There seems to be some psychological disconnect -- on one hand, you have crackpot theorists outside the scientific establishment, on the other you have august senior scientists, not to mention international consortiums of research establishments. Le Sigh
Without knowledge of sump pumps and how they work type question, if you are pumping water out of the basement where do you make the water go? Do you run a hose to the city sewer system or something?

The key is whether or not they believe in anthropogenic climate change - if it's all just sunspots, then there's nothing we can do about it anyway so let's all crank up the AC in our Humvees while we still can.

Same co-worker will vigorously argue why Global Warming is a complete conspiracy to make money for someone or other. (I try not to ask questions because the lecture will never end) We had a cold snap where we were in the 50s in the office and had to buy space heaters since we don't have heat. She spent the week muttering about how Al Gore should return his award.
Meet my assistant, never met a conspiracy theory she didn't love. She is otherwise brilliant and a hella good worker so I deal with the crazy.
I think I need a sump pump for my sinuses this morning. Allergy season, how I did not miss you.
God, my alarm going off makes me want to weep.
