Spike's Bitches 45: That sure as hell wasn't in the brochure.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Trust my rage

Okay, it is a terrible idea, but also very funny.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

Aw, see, everybody's being all mature and stuff.

lisah, I do know about Offbeat Bride -- I've been reading her book!

Is it good? I'm intrigued but also resistant to the idea of buying a book about weddings.

Am with "terrible idea, but funny, cherish in your heart, or your LJ", PC

Dana, yay for having WiFi or whatever you've got that allows you to post in the airport? yay for modern technology?

I am studiously avoiding work. I need to stop doing that.

I am, too. I just can't get my brain back into gear, and am addicted to teh interwebs something fierce.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Aw, the quote on this page is, "See Vera? Dress yourself up; you get taken out somewhere fun". How appropriate for the wedding dress discussion.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

Hi javachik! *waves*

Yay for geeking out together, Erin! Your dress idea sounds amazing -- I can't wait to see it come together.

Is it good? I'm intrigued but also resistant to the idea of buying a book about weddings.

It's OK. I'm enjoying reading it, but more in a spirit of solidarity ("other people have had offbeat weddings too!") than for any particularly helpful advice. A lot of the ideas are along the lines of "Hey, your dress doesn't have to be white!" or "You don't have to put on lots of makeup if you don't want to, but it's OK if you want to!" It's mostly a lot of stories about other people's weddings: hers, of course, and a bunch of other people she interviewed. In terms of practical suggestions and resources, I bet the website is just as good, if not better.

(I probably wouldn't have bought the book myself, but it was a gift from my mom, in the spirit of "I know you want to have a weird wedding, and I'm OK with that," which was sweet of her.)

I am totally with the rest of you in avoiding work today. *goes back to looking at red dresses*

edit: love the Vera quote!

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

Even funnier, as I saw "Vera" and thought "Vera Wang."

BTW, DAN and I were looking at wedding stuff yesterday and he kept muttering "WANG!" and cackling.

I am going to get that book if the library doesn't have it, because I am a planner, and I think it will help me to have a how-to guide that's not crazy.

EDIT: It's not how-to-y, Kate? Dammit, I need a checklist or something.

We have a wedding wiki (NERDS!). Internal only so far. It's been pretty useful to make sure we are covering all the bases.

I found this great site of Chicago ghost sign photos, and when I saw this one, I knew I had to post it here--it advertises corsets!
