Where'd they get CAT scan from?... I mean, did they test it on cats? Or does the machine sort of look like a cat?

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

That's strange to tell you like that.

I've gotten stuff like that from a few schools, when I've asked what the status was. It's way more useful to know something like that than just to be told "We'll get back to you later."

omnis, pursue. That's an order from a shy woman who can use M-16. - Shir

ah, well, I guess that makes sense. Either way, I agree with Javachik, out of the hundreds of candidates, you made #3! That is great. And since 3 is my lucky number, I'm hoping that it was the safety school application for either #1 or #2, which will put you in the drivers seat!

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I think Hil's got a sufficiently developed sense of irony not to take career advice from a Giant reptile.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Hil, that's stupid, why would they tell you that? Why not just wait until they can say yes you got it, or, we're sorry the position has been filled.

eta eh, posted too late.

Our wings are not tired.

Congratulations on everything coming off without a hitch, Bonny. Or with only the intended hitch.

Indeed. Sounds like it was a wonderful experience for all.

Hil, here's hoping for something more definitive soon.

I long for menopause.

I highly recommend it.

Thanks to all of you for the support on the 18 year old thing. He came to the family event at my house with his girlfriend and a good time was had by all. They took some of his clothes with them. He is staying with her for the time being, as in till her mother has her fill of it. GF is in total agreement on him just finishing HS already and stop the excuses. We'll see how it goes.

So if she or someone else gets her feelings hurt, it's because of our insufficient sense of irony and not your complete ignorance about the importance of context? Noted. You should really know that looking for a job is an extremely sensitive time in someone's life. And it might have been a quote by a dinosaur or what the fuck ever, but the implication was that Hil was a loser for not being chosen right off.

This is the standard way to handle things in academia. After a series of interviews the department (1) votes up or down on each candidate about whether they want to hire them if a position is available and (2) ranks them. About half the time, none of the candidates survives #1, so you just restart the search the next year. If you end up with more viable candidates than positions, then it's a waiting game for someone, but you still let them know that you intend to offer them a position if it is possible to do so.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

If it were actually delivered by a giant reptile, sure. But it was actually delivered by a human who thought it was an apt choice. So.

Certainly the case when my cousin and her husband were looking for professorships. And they both landed at esteemed universities.

Punishingly Intricate

GF is in total agreement on him just finishing HS already and stop the excuses. We'll see how it goes.

My younger brother graduated hs but just barely. He had to go to summer school every year including after he'd walked in the graduation ceremony. And then he was verrry dilettante-ish about getting through his first year of college. Then he moved in with his girlfriend (actually she moved into the house he was in and they started dating) and she helped motivate him to take school much more seriously. They transferred to another state and he finished and then went to a great law school and now is a lawyer.
