So, having removed six splinters from between my pinky finger nail and the quick, from what is now a 2mm by 3mm pocket between them, I find that efforts to retrieve the seventh and largest seem to be driving it further in rather. I've been making use of the medicinal frozen corn, and that has yet to be of any help other than to reduce the amount of pain. Would it be ok, do you think, to just let it go, growing out with the nail for... well... least a month, maybe more... and then remove the splinter? I dosed the finger well with Solarcaine and rubbing alcohol.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.
I wouldn't leave it, Andi, it'll get infected. I've pulled hard-to-get splinters out with glue before, but I don't know if that's a good idea given where it is. You should probably go to a doctor.

Oh, maybe if you soak it in epsom salts? Or just warm water, maybe. I seem to recall that that might draw a splinter out.

Andi, I've found hydrogen peroxide to be pretty effective at drawing out a splinter. Keep pouring it in--helps stave off infection, too.

FWIW, I took a big splinter into my thigh while building a wall out of railroad cross-ties and it didn't come out for six weeks, but it didn't get infected.
