Andi, I've found hydrogen peroxide to be pretty effective at drawing out a splinter. Keep pouring it in--helps stave off infection, too.

FWIW, I took a big splinter into my thigh while building a wall out of railroad cross-ties and it didn't come out for six weeks, but it didn't get infected.

Thanks, hec. it does seem to be more wedged up under the nail but not really embedded in the flesh. So i'm gonna go with keeping it clean and monitoring for infection.
