From Snopes, the final note says that asking to have things taken off seems to have no effect, and it's entirely possible that part of their business model is getting email addresses from people trying to opt out.

Speaking of the flooding, it looks like RWA National is definitely not going to be in Nashville-- they were investigating trying the convention center/multiple hotel route, but that's not going to work either since the damage is so widespread and things are in such a massive state of flux.
They should hold it in Providence, say the weekend of June 26. Bet they could get a deal!

If my understanding of these things is accurate, it doesn't make them unsearchable, it just adds some code that asks search engines to not index them, assuming the search engines play nice.

Shit's all sorts of different now.
If the search engine isn't playing nice, then I would imagine that a) NOTHING is unsearchable and 2) they probably have no qualms about sending viruses via spam if you legitimize your email address through opting out.
