What do people think of American accents over there?
They're mostly associated with film and TV, as we have masses of that from the US (as you'd expect). There are some stereotypes associated with them, but mainly by people who don't know any actual Americans. People like The Girl and me, with 'murrican connections, would mostly just find them interesting, like Stephanie said re British accents in America.

I absorb accents like a sponge, which means I am constantly checking myself at work to make sure I'm not accidentally speaking British.
As do I. Hee. One of the more innocent things I do, under the influence of Ambien, is that I suddenly find myself spurred to read whatever it is I'm reading before bed in a British or French accent.

The one that confused me for years was "raisin" flavored soda and juice boxes. I was well into my teens before I realized that "raisin" was French for "grape."
