I guess I find that contagious.
The Girl uses a lot of American phrases and terms, having partly grown up in Houston. I 'catch' them so easily. Fortunately she doesn't have an American accent. I picked up bits of that after about a week of my year in the US.
Heh. I wouldn't know - but it's funny imagining you guys watching QI and talking like Stephen Fry.
I just hope I'm not as horrifying as the American accents in Jeeves and Wooster.

Just as long as you're better than James Marsters.

What do people think of American accents over there? Over here, British accents are generally well regarded.
The issue isn't accents, it's Americans. I once said "why are Americans always such idiots in British TV" He looked at me and said "why does the bad guy always have a british accent?" I said "fair enough"
"why does the bad guy always have a british accent?"
Because Mark Sheppard is awesome!
Spooks is doing its level best to reverse that trend. The CIA (well, okay, most foreigners and pretty much all British government types that aren't MI6) are evil to the core.
Puerto Rico, Guam et all also have non-voting Reps and no Senators; but they also pay no federal taxes. District residents get the double whammy.
I was going to share my thoughts on the messed up position Puerto Rico was in, but then I decided that probably no one else cares as much as I do. And I don't have to care anymore because I don't live there anymore.
Personally, I always think British accents make people sound more interesting.
I absorb accents like a sponge, which means I am constantly checking myself at work to make sure I'm not accidentally speaking British.

I am, but I'm weird like that. But yeah, I don't mean to imply that PR etc. are all sitting pretty - lack of equal status under the law doesn't generally do anyone much good. It just plays out differently in different places.
