Puerto Rico, Guam et all also have non-voting Reps and no Senators; but they also pay no federal taxes. District residents get the double whammy.
I was going to share my thoughts on the messed up position Puerto Rico was in, but then I decided that probably no one else cares as much as I do. And I don't have to care anymore because I don't live there anymore.
Personally, I always think British accents make people sound more interesting.
I absorb accents like a sponge, which means I am constantly checking myself at work to make sure I'm not accidentally speaking British.

I am, but I'm weird like that. But yeah, I don't mean to imply that PR etc. are all sitting pretty - lack of equal status under the law doesn't generally do anyone much good. It just plays out differently in different places.
What do people think of American accents over there?
They're mostly associated with film and TV, as we have masses of that from the US (as you'd expect). There are some stereotypes associated with them, but mainly by people who don't know any actual Americans. People like The Girl and me, with 'murrican connections, would mostly just find them interesting, like Stephanie said re British accents in America.
Grammar edit. Dissertation frying brain. Time for food.
I've noticed we sound super-nasal on your telly and tend to talk louder. But some of us really do, so it's hard to get offended, even if it is a caricature.
Because Mark Sheppard is awesome!
I think he's got almost every space on his Genre TV Bingo Card filled in at this point.

As do I. Hee. One of the more innocent things I do, under the influence of Ambien, is that I suddenly find myself spurred to read whatever it is I'm reading before bed in a British or French accent.
Strangely, I haven't done this since I've acquired a boyfriend. (I also like to read the French, Italian and Spanish instructions on beauty products and cooking items aloud, to practice. I'm a freak.)

He's beyond Genre. If it's filmed in Canada, he's been on it. And beyond. He'll go anywhere, be skeevy in anything. Him and Garret Dillahunt.

I learned most of my early French from reading the backs of Canadian cereal boxes as a kid.
