'Why We Fight'

Spike's Bitches 45: That sure as hell wasn't in the brochure.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Our wings are not tired.

Thanksgiving is going to be interesting and good, but definitely different. My Aunt Sharon (who used to be married to my blood Uncle; in the divorce, I kept her), the woman who mostly raised me while biomother was in and out of kraxy, has a very large family, the Foxes. Since I lived off and on with Aunt Sharon (before she moved to Kenya when I was 17), her family became yet another in a long line of incredible families who took me in as their own. They're mostly evangelical Christian, but thankfully don't interrogate or preach during holiday get-togethers

Anyway, my Aunt Sharon's younger brother has terminal cancer, so everyone is getting together for "Christmas" at Thanksgiving. It's a really nice thing, I think. And I am going, since my Aunt will be home from Kenya and my cousin Cindy is bringing her toddler (from Toronto). The gathering is near Palm Springs, and will be 30+ people, most of whom I haven't seen since I was a teenager. I am looking forward to it, but it will probably be exactly the opposite of my usual Thanksgiving (hosted). I bring out the nice china, carefully prepare lots of gourmet dishes, drink fantastic wine, etc. I love Thanksgiving, mostly because it's hard to make it commercial, and it's an excuse to be with loved ones and eat fine food and reflect on life.

This Thanksgiving will have no wine, will be eaten on paper plates, will probably leave me eating salad (I am not mentioning my pescaterian status as this dinner is so not about me, and I can def go a day with nothing but salad and pumpkin pie!) and will be chaotic. But I am looking forward to it!

I'll probably be doing family stuff during the week, and I don't know who's around in LA on Sunday (I am flying out of Burbank on Sunday night), but maybe I'll post in the F2F thread and see if any peeps feel like meeting up. Um, and drinking wine.

Sounds like you'll be feasting on even rarer food, Javachik. Have a wonderful time.

My pescaterian self is bringing a codfish pie or possibly cod cakes. It's Pilgrimy and I think it'll fit in with the rest of the meal. And I'm bringing brown rice gravy which, funnily, might be the only gravy as my BiL doesn't like gravy and I usually make it.

So true. Thanks!

Yeah, normally I'd still bring some delicious sides, but since I am flying down on Wednesday night, I am bringing dinner rolls and butter. Had to be something I could pick up on Thursday morning on the way.

Eeek! Flying!

Yeah, "food a la lap" doesn't sound tasty.

Just be sure to eat extra pie.

All is well that ends in pizza.

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

I normally snort at demonstrations.

I find them mostly pointless, good for only the slight feeling of solidarity, a picture for tomorrow's newspaper, which in its turn will fold the fish of the next day. I prefer the daily struggle, the one which involves daily awareness, and not a bi-monthly demonstration.

And yet, I'll be there.
