Spike's Bitches 45: That sure as hell wasn't in the brochure.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

All is well that ends in pizza.

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

I normally snort at demonstrations.

I find them mostly pointless, good for only the slight feeling of solidarity, a picture for tomorrow's newspaper, which in its turn will fold the fish of the next day. I prefer the daily struggle, the one which involves daily awareness, and not a bi-monthly demonstration.

And yet, I'll be there.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

Oh, Shir. I read that. It is beautiful.

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

Funny. I'm finding myself convincing long time leftists friends that it's not a demonstration that's "shooting too much directions at the same time", but the thing we (I, we, them, it's all the same) waited for.

People are weird in their persistence of the country to recognize their own "unique" pain.

There's nothing unique about human rights violation.

"We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?"

So I'm losing the plot over the dissertation, which I cannot see finishing by Monday's deadline. The Girl is being adorable and seeing if she can change her flights to come home earlier than planned and help. Not sure how she can help, but I might go entirely crazy, possibly quite literally, if I'm alone in this flat with my work for much longer. So, yeah.

Shir, you are fab and I hope the demonstration is a useful one.

We don't do Thanksgiving, but with our American connections, p'raps we should. I like mashed potatoes and pie.

Seska, good luck with the whole sanity thing. And the dissertation. May The Girl have safe travels whenever she comes home to you.

Sadly, no.

Good luck, Seska!

We're spending Thanksgiving with my parents, and on the day we'll eat with them and my sister's family at the restaurant in the retirement community where my parents live. (Don't feel sorry for us not having homemade, it's a fabulous spread.) The next day will be the homemade Thanksgiving with my Aunt & Uncle, and one of my cousins all coming over to join the rest of us - the people to pie ratio that is planned is 2:1. I'm going to have to jog back to DC from Richmond to get rid of the calories.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

(I am not mentioning my pescaterian status as this dinner is so not about me, and I can def go a day with nothing but salad and pumpkin pie!) and will be chaotic.

FWIW, java, I'd be annoyed as the host if somebody didn't tell me they had a dietary restriction and just sat there eating rolls and salad. It's not all about you, but Thanksgiving is about everybody having a delicious meal. As a host, I would not consider it an imposition to make some vegetarian or pescetarian dishes.
