I've read about 47 books this year, currently on 48. Most of those books were pretty hefty. I tried to make an effort to read more books and less internet. In the end, I think I just got less sleep.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

But thank dog for the CTA bus tracker. My preciousss. We loves the precious.

Yeah. (I almost said "totes" here.) I've been checking that before I leave for work in the morning, to make sure I won't have to be standing around in the cold waiting for a late bus.

Plus if I'm already at the stop I can use my cellphone to see how long before the bus arrives, so I can decide whether to keep on waiting or find some other method of getting where I'm going.

We have a GPS bus tracker, too, and it rocks my socks. Except for the occasional ghost bus blip, but really? Overall a definite win. t hugs free public transit tight

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

That really is brilliant. I wish they had that for the trolleys here. My closest stop only gets 1/4 of the trolleys, but the one that they all stop isn't that far, so I wish I could know for sure which made the most sense.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Where do you live again? Even communist Russia makes you pay.

Chapel Hill, NC. The University and the two towns got together several years ago and decided that parking was a big enough problem that it was worth their while to make the buses free. Ridership jumped 40% in the first year.

Of course, weekend and night service is pretty limited, but I think that's more a function of living in a relatively small community.

At my last gig they sponsored buses along one route so it cost us 25¢, and that route just happened to run from near home to work. I ended up using it a fair bit towards the end of the contract. Especially good on mornings after the ER.

Yeah, I think that's a joke on another board. Oops. Here the muffin joke is about whitey eating one.
