And "Holy Ghost" just sounds lame....
Well it sounded perfectly fine until a few years ago. Now it inevitably conjures up an image of Eddie Izzard flapping his arms and running around the stage.
I was just shopping. As her mother pushed the shopping cart, a small girl in the cart was saying "No, no, no, no, no" to the things on the shelves. Then she explained, in tones of sweet reasonableness, "I just want what I want."
Weird headline o' the day:
Police step in to stop Darth Vader 'porn movie'
Sadly, the article is less interesting - the police just raided the wrong place.
The set of a movie starring Darth Vader actor David Prowse was raided by police after reports it was being used to shoot a porn film.
The bungalow location was instead found to house actors filming a dramatic dialogue for the 'action thriller'.
Neighbours had jumped to the wrong conclusion after seeing a camera and lighting equipment being taken into the home.
One film crew member, who did not want to be named, said: 'It was hilarious to see a bunch of policemen enter the bungalow expecting to see a porn film carrying on. When the officers saw two dressed actors talking, they looked quite disappointed.
Edit for bigger quote to make more sense. It was the fault of nosy neighbors!
This conservapedia translation is doing odd things with the word "unclean." I have no idea what word was used in the original, but a leper who was unclean in the KJV is sick in this one, and a spirit that was unclean is now evil. I wonder, if you went back to the Greek, if the same word was used for "unclean" in both places. I also am pretty sure that the people doing this "translation" wouldn't really care -- there are plenty of places where words seem to be changed around for no good reason at all.
And, my favorite so far, I've found twice that the people who criticize Jesus, who are called scribes in the KJV, are called "intellectuals" or "intellectual types" in this.

That's exactly what I was thinking!
Well, beth, since my last post I have gone to the post office, comic book store, and lunch. Now I have to put another load in the washer and dryer and start putting things away. Oh, and I unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher at some point this morning.
I dunno, in some ways the "translation" makes sense to me--it's just a form of modernizing it, like many of the "teen bibles" or whatever are. I guess it depends on how you present it--is it like, "ooh, this one is MORE ACCURATE!" or is it just "Hey, this is going to be more comprehensible to a modern audience"? Cause #1, not so much. #2, sure. The taking out stories, well...I'm no Bible literalist, so, I'm not going to argue with folks over what belongs there and what doesn't, but...
I followed this link from Glenn Greenwald's Salon column--it's a Daily Kos diary from a young man who decided to come out to his parents and what happened. It got me crying here at work!! (Read the bottom of the diary entry first, and then read upwards--the updates are posted on top of the original entry.)
Hive mind question:
Can you think of any trade secret case that has caught your attention in the past five years or so?
