Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

Have we seen Maria Hill in AOS before, or is this reference the first time she has been mentioned on this show?

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

She was in the pilot, iirc. Saying "He can never know" to Ron Glass, re: Coulson and Tahiti.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Re: the box on the beach. I would probably have said "air." Because that's probably at least partly right.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

I would have said Schrodinger's cat was in the box.

eta With Schrodinger's lid on it, apparently.

re: the box and sand et al.

Koenig may have shot someone on principle if an in depth philosophical discussion broke out.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I do have a box with sand in it, but it's never been on a beach. I have had a similar box on the beach, but it had silver inlaid runes in it and no sand. ah, Essaoiura, land of sand and boxes.

OK, that is evocative and convincing.

I now have no idea what is in the box. Perhaps Gwyneth Paltrow's head.

That would be Dean's pick--Gwyneth's head and a Desert Eagle.

Sam would have a map and instructions to make a boat.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I now have no idea what is in the box. Perhaps Gwyneth Paltrow's head.

That was the immediate image that leapt to mind when I heard about the question. I wonder how often the S.H.I.E.L.D. interviewers hear that one?

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

What's in the box? WHAT'S IN THE BOX?

Surely the obvious answer is sand.

I love this answer. Of course I recently saw Peter and the Starcatcher, so...

All of the emotional moments of the end of the episode were completely lost on me. I was too busy laughing about the plasma source four juniors. [link] I gotta get me one of those.
