The stuff in the attic made me wonder - might Epitaph 1 all have taken place in the attic instead of the real world? It might explain that weird ending with the survivors going up into what looks to be the sunlight.

Yeah, especially since I don't think they really knew what the Attic was going to be until they started writing this season. At least that's already paid off a little better than, say, "Tormented Space" or "Sydney wakes up 1 year later in Hong Kong (or wherever it was)".
