I thought
The Departed
was pretty good, but
Infernal Affairs
was
really
good. If I hadn't known about the original, I'd have been fairly happy. But the existence of the latter movie doesn't make me like the former less, and it's possible that it will make more people see the former--I doubt it will make fewer see it.
And this whole discussion just made me add
Infernal Affairs
to my Netflix queue, and in fact, I should own it.
I don't discount all remakes. But I am not a fan of poor remakes. I would prefer remakes occur with some distance in time from the original. As much as I liked "Insomnia" - I thought it was too soon to redo the original, and I really liked the original quite a bit.

damn. oh well.
I thought he was only supposed to be in the role for 1 year anyway.
Well, as long as he's choosing the option that will allow him to make the most lasting contribution to society... @@ &infin
Finally saw
Shutter Island
tonight. It was okay I guess, but the dialogue really fell flat for me. And the music was way too much, verging on cheesy.
Visually it was cool, but they left out most of the coded messages, which really draw you into the investigation and added to the mystery in the book.
My friend who hadn't read it totally liked it and wants to read the book now, so I guess it works on that level.
ETA: I hope the same thing doesn't happen with
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
