Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
So am I alone in thinking that The Illusionist and Tess of D'Ubervilles are strange choices for Top Romantic movies?
...What?
The Illusionist
Are they arguing in favor of Ed Norton/Paul Giamatti?
...Tess? Of the D'Urbervilles? Romantic?
My copywriter on Atonement (which I haven't seen) being on the list.
I never saw Atonement, but the description sounds less than romantic. False accusations! Irrevocable change! It’s Valentine’s Day!!!
Empire Online 50 worst movies ever, as voted by readers.
Okay, I didn't like Batman and Robin, but worse than some of those stinkers? Really?

Way, WAY too 80s onward-centric. If Plan 9 is the only movie prior to 1980 on the list, I question the whole premise of the thing. And, lord, Plan 9 is so overrated on the bad movie scale, even by Ed Wood standards - try Bride of the Monster for truly awful (though at least it IS Lugosi there through the whole thing). And I'm sorry, Armageddon was worse than Batman and Robin and it isn't even on the list.
Sorry to post and run, but I sort of thought Book of Eli being Zardoz was conventional wisdom. I mean, the first time I saw the Eli trailer I recognized it.

The IO9 was what I was referring to earlier--it seemed pretty clearly riffing to me.
I question the whole premise of the thing
Well, that's what you get when you have readers do the choosing.
