You're wrong about River. River's not on the ship. They didn't want her here, but she couldn't make herself leave. So she melted... Melted away. They didn't know she could do that, but she did.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Huh, apparently, in San Francisco, it is illegal to buy or have in one’s possession a BB gun. So I guess my SIL will have to buy my brother's Christmas present for me.

I'm pretty sure you can get it in the East Bay or Daly City. I know I've seen pellet guns at Sporting Good stores in El Cerrito.

"What kind of magical sunshine and lollipop world do you live in? Because you need to be medicated."-SFist

Oh yeah, it's just SF, where apparently BB guns are more illegal than real guns.

Of course, as an SF resident, it's still illegal for me to buy one.

Since I was mailing it directly to SIL anyway, I'm just going to have her order it and send a check.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

You could legally have bought and mailed it outside SF, right?

That's actually not clear to me. But I was planning to order online anyway, where it seemed problematic that my billing address was SF.

I have no interest in running around trying to find one here.

ETA: Although gun websites are pretty disturbing in and of themselves.

Did you also see The Machinist? I hear he's doing another weight loss gig.

Yeah -- I didn't like the movie; my response was "Wait, you mean that wasn't supposed to be obvious an hour ago?" But Bale interests me, I guess because he's a talented nutcase. (I think the AP commentary has some amusing stories along those lines.)

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

If you liked Thank You for Smoking, you will like Up in the Air. If you did not like Thank You for Smoking, you...still may like Up in the Air, since it's less cynical and has more heart.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Profit minus American Psycho equals Batman!

Bwahaha!

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Tivo set!

I'm surprised that no one's posted about Fantastic Mr. Fox. I saw it Thanksgiving day and loved it! The detail was remarkable, the voice performances excellent, and the story was strong with a satisfying but not-too-cloyingly-sweet ending.
