'My Black Friend' headed to big screen
Lionsgate and Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Films are partnering to develop the comedy "Will You Be My Black Friend?" with Chris Rock starring.
The project stems from a November GQ magazine article written by senior correspondent Devin Friedman, who began a self-conscious search for black friends on Craigslist. The white, married Manhattan journalist then pursued his quixotic quest to expand his social circle, with unexpected results.
Oh, but how could
that
go wrong?
More details on the Timing with CFerg and Sean Maher.
The timing looks like it would conflict with Eureka shooting, but I haven't gotten around to actually asking him about it yet.
So...who's seen this Jerry Cornelius movie?
I have! Of course, it was about 25 or 30 years ago, so my recollection is very hazy. Back then I was right into Moorcock, and read all the Jerry Cornelius novels, so I was very excited to learn they'd made a movie of The Final Programme. I barely remember the movie but I do recall it was a let-down; it was very confusing but I suspect that was more the result of censorship, since it was on TV back in the late 70s slash early 80s.

Oh and three films that look interesting:
Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant [link]
Legion [link]
and
Black Dynamite [link]
On the Paranormal Activity front, I've heard good things about it, but am somewhat reluctant to travel and see it. As someone who's had a few creepy nighttime things happen over the years, I suspect it would weird me out in ways that more blatant in-your-face horror movies can't.
I saw PA last year. It creeped everyone out at the screening but me -- even so it's still a no-budget movie with non-actors, not the second coming of Halloween.
Huh. Interesting article on the flopping of
Jennifer's Body
[link] which in turn points to another interesting link [link] which points to someone who ran the numbers that matched my gut-glance at Rotten Tomatoes on the genderskew in reviews. [link]
(I maintain that, while uneven, it's the most thought-provoking movie I've seen in a long time.)
