Hey, everyone! I have this terrific plan! How about the bad guy lets himself captured, with the idea of breaking out and causing chaos! As you can see, it's a completely original plan and nothing could possibly go wrong with it.
Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
I think Loki was shortchanged--as was Barton!--in the Avengers movie by the shortening of the scene between the two of them in the secret hideout. A squidge more motivation is revealed--though not much
Loki's motivation in Thor confused me. I still liked him, but yes, I was confused as to where he was coming from. I liked him better in Avengers, but I do think this movie really fleshed him out. Having said that, I have a hug weakspot for his type of character so I'm not shocked I love him.
About his motivation - I recently read a Thor/Loki fic (and I usually don't do incest but I love her writing), that sort of filled in some blanks for me. I think that being told that you are what everyone calls a monster must be a horrifying discovery, but it's one that I would expect to go a bit more inward than outward. And we, as an audience, have had to fill in a lot there.
Ha ha ha, this can be nothing but good news: [link]
Beau had the opposite take. He explained to me that what we (as viewers) were supposed to pick up on is that Loki and Thor each have characteristics from their parents (Thor's parents biologically). Their mother taught Loki the manipulation of visions, while their father has characteristics that each of them share: the boldness and morally centeredness rule that is Thor's way of leading (now that he is more mature). While Loki, rightfully, mentions the viciousness with which Odin won wars and conquered his enemies in the past. Odin spoke to his two sons differently, minimizing (or aggrandizing) when the need arose (e.g. humans aren't worth your time; you aren't suitable for the throne) .
wrt Loki and his issues he's a frost giant, right? but there's a scene where he turns into a baby in front of Odin's eyes, I assumed, as a sort of "love me and take me home gesture". I did always assume that Loki preferred Frigga, both because of her magic and his natural magic talent, but also because of temperament. But I don't understand how he did the magic baby trick if the Jotun don't naturally all have magic. He'd never met Frigga at that point.

I don't know when I've ever felt such trepidation.

You say that a lot. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Literal LOL (thank goodness I had pita, not coffee in my mouth). Thanks, BT!
Stephanie,
So you lost me at frost giant ! WTF? Clearly, I'm not up on my lore.
