Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Penelope Ann Miller.

Correct! Sorry.

but don't remember her being bad or anything.

No, she's almost competent in most things. She's not awful. She just adds nothing.

She wasn't bad in The Artist, but then she mostly just had to play exasperated.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I loved The Shadow but don't remember her being bad or anything.

Yeah, I didn't think she was bad, just not up to acting on the level of Baldwin, John Lone, and Ian McKellen.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

I think you could take one of his stories and make a movie out of it. Have Cate Blanchette narrate over your opening describing the Endless and their place in space and time, and boom, you're good. Go into some Tarsem Singh visuals.

I WANT THAT. Yes. That is pretty much the only way I'd be okay with a movie of the Sandman, too.

We saw World's End while we were in London. It's delightful, but the weakest, comedy-wise, of the "Cornetto trilogy" movies. However, there is extra comedy if you're an old-school goth or know anything about late 80s/early 90s UK goth rock.

Always Anti-fascist!

Maybe she's somebody's niece. Which I suppose wouldn't preclude the blowjob thing...hopefully not with her uncle, though.

Because books.

We're watching Prometheus for the first time. So far I like (or am interested in) everybody but the two scientists, whom I want to smack. Is this a good thing?

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

It's a good thing, Amy.

Idris Elba was one of my favorite parts of that movie, to be honest.

Because books.

Idris Elba is ALWAYS good. Not!Tom Hardy is especially pissing me off because ... he's not Tom Hardy, and I keep thinking I would like him better if he were.

Also love David, and am interested in Meredith Vickers, because ... Charlize Theron, I guess.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Idris Elba was one of my favorite parts of that movie, to be honest.

Who disagrees with this as a general truism of life? Line up right here--out of respect you can choose--chin, groin, or gut. But you need to pay.

Watched Monkey Shines today. It was...adorable? Really adorable. And not even remotely scary or creepy, and I don't understand the even most bogus premise behind the monkey neurology.

Because books.

Okay, that was just dumb. And they're making a sequel?
