News flash: the opposite of good is John Carter.
Dangit. I loved those books so much when I was nine.
I like Kristin Stewart, but mostly because she was quite good in the Runaways. Even though I had cognitive dissonance when she had a sex scene with Coraline (Dakota Fanning). (Which was totally hot and made great use of the Stooges "I Wanna Be Your Dog.")
Any movie that posits that Charlize Theron is convinced she's losing a battle of looks to Kristen Stewart has to also sell me on it being a critique of the kyriarchy bullshit--a) of the value of looks and b) of the idea that Kristen is ranked above Charlize in any significant statistical sampling of non-Twihards.
of the idea that Kristen is ranked above Charlize in any significant statistical sampling of non-Twihards.
I like Kristen better. And I have nothing against Charlize who not only gamely went wherever Arrested Development wanted her to go (even if it was their worst storyline) and rocked a pixie cut for a couple years. Charlize is just a generic kind of very pretty to me.
I never said everyone. I said a significant statistical sampling. I truly believe Charlize is considered more conventionally or popularly beautiful than Kristen. Your disagreeing doesn't change my position as stated in the quote you cite.
I said a significant statistical sampling.
I'm giving you a data point.
Within the context of the story, it's only important that the queen believes Snow White is more beautiful than she is, and that she considers her a threat. It's also fairy tale logic, so Snow's dark hair, white skin, red lips might be the ultimate in beauty.

I don't think so. Traditionally, Snow White has been prettier to the audience than the Evil Queen, hasn't she?
I'm giving you a data point.
I continue to accept that you exist.

In movies, I guess, although the Disney queen was sort of an icy-cold beauty. But it was a story long before it was a movie.
For me, they're both equally attractive in their way, so it doesn't bother me.
