I guess there was once or twice that all power was diverted to the forward shields or something, which kind of counts as changing channels and turning up the volume, but I can ignore that since it's not overcoming a plot point - it's blocking a punch.
Is there fanfic where guys from Engineering get together in pubs to drink and complain about why the fuck Starfleet isn't building vessels with more power already IN the forward sheilds? Because really, it seems like having more power there would solve an awful lot of Starfleet's problems.
Saw the movie again last night with my sisters and it does hold up. To answer Pete's quibble -
they do toss off one-line explanations as to why there are all these new people on the ship. It takes an awful lot of handwaving to believe that the battlefield promotions would stick once they're back on Earth, but once you get to Kirk as Captain, I'm okay with him picking his own crew.
I HAVE SUCH A CRUSH ON THIS MOVIE OMG.
And yes, it's making me want to rewatch TOS all summer too.
Incidentally two of your seventeen would make my top ten. Three of them would make my top fifteen.
Sounds like the beginning of an annoying logic puzzle....
How Big Is the New Enterprise Compared to the Old One?
I didn't even notice that this Enterprise was
so much bigger than the TOS one.
Is comparing size spoilery? Also, is there a joke in there somewhere?
Also, I may compose a mini edu-rant about how few people are familiar with the WW-II Enterprise, despite its many exploits....
What I love about this Trek is that for every change, you can just say ALTERNATE UNIVERSE. NEENER. If I was Abrams I would be doing that EVERY DAY.
Which is probably why I don't work in movies.
I love the space hippie episode.
I think there are about 24 episodes so far that appear to be recommended, which is a little over a quarter. A fair chunk, more than I was expecting to watch, but it should be good fun.
but it should be good fun.
Especially if you like girls in form fitting, velour minidresses.
That blonde psychiatrist in "Where No Man Has Gone Before" was pretty!
I'm looking at various Best lists to see which episodes off that Top 35 I should look into. Most of them appear on all the lists or have also been recommended by others. IGN adds "The Enemy Within," which sounds like it's awesomely ridiculous with the good Kirk and evil Kirk business. Those episodes are always a hoot. And EW adds "This Side of Paradise," which sounds like it might be a good Spock episode. Are they good? Does anyone here second "The Ultimate Computer," "A Taste of Armageddon," "Errand of Mercy," or "The Immunity Syndrome"? Those are the only other episodes people I know haven't also recommended. Also, anyone second "Day of the Dove"? I'm trying to keep my watching manageable! Also, my computer makes funny noises when I watch on CBS.com, so I don't want to kill the poor thing. Watching television online legally makes me feel like a contributing member of society!
Dude, just pick an ep and start watching. If you hate it, stop. If you like it, keep going.
Enemy Within is another episode that's great for a trope. Also, evil Kirk wears eyeliner.
This Side of Paradise is a good Spock episode, definitely. And it basically involves sex pollen. Immunity Syndrome is another good Spock episode.
The Ultimate Computer is fine, but I wouldn't call it a must-see. Same with Day of the Dove, which features Klingons.
