I didn't really like Glengarry Glen Ross but he's had me since House of Games. I think Redbelt is a better film than House of Games.
Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
I think Redbelt is his best film yet. Have you seen Spanish Prisoner?
I did see it but I hardly remember. I think it might be time for a Mamet film fest at my house.
I didn't know this...
During the scene in the airport near the end of the film, the fussy child drops his book in front of Joe (Campbell Scott). The book is "The Giving Tree" by the late Shel Silverstein. Silverstein was a close friend of Mamet's and the two co-wrote the film Things Change (1988).
I tried to call you on Sunday because I was standing right next to Matt Fraction.
What?! .....NOOOOOOOO!
Oh man, it is so sweet of you to even think of me. Did the phone ring & ring with no answer? My power was out for a few hours Sunday because of the storm here. And I was zen about it because for some random reason our development is always fixed quickly, as it was this time (my mom's still isn't back on) ...but now I'm retroactively bitter! Which is kind of ridiculous because here's what I would have said if you'd gotten me:
"...Um. [5 minute pause] Oh! Tell him to stop going to that store in VA that is probably very nice but really far away from me although I imagine it's convenient for him which is why he goes there... so never mind, don't say that. Tell him that he needs to do that sitcom with Minear where they have a monkey. He'll know what I mean!"
(He would not have known what I meant.)
Oh, but here is something that is not entirely about me: did you manage to get Rex Mantooth? I have to go to the shop to get my Gotham Central HC soon, so I will ask again if they think they can round up any copies. I asked a while back but the dude was skeptical, so I want to mention it again when the owner is there 'cause he knows how much money I spend there and is nice.
And this isn't the comics thread so, er, one of the Expendables clips I've seen featured a machine gun that fired shotgun shells. Or something similarly ridiculous. If it's all like that I am on board.
What in the?.. .

Yes! Wait, is that, like...a real phone? Not a cell phone? So I shouldn't text that number?
In any case, I was going to have him leave you a message or something, but nothing came up, and also, he was talking to people waiting in line for his panel, and I decided it would be kind of ass-y to butt in. But I did go to the end of the line, and his panel was awesome.
did you manage to get Rex Mantooth
Every time you mention this to me, it's like the first time. I think this is actually the third. In any case, my comic book store is having a sale this weekend, and if they have it, I will pick it up. Regardless, I think I need to call you and tell you all about how great Matt Fraction is.
What in the?.. .
That was a Funny or Die thing, Laga. It's pretty amusing.
And I thought I couldn't love Kristen Bell more.
I hate this movie so much. It's so vile and mean.
And unmercilessly stupid.
