[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

All is well that ends in pizza.

Red River Valley flood:

My brother Jim lives in Moorhead, MN, the sister city to Fargo.

He has 100 gallons of drinking water in a barrel in his garage and his front stoop sits at 43-1/2 ft above flood stage. The flood waters already have passed the record of 40 ft AFS and are headed for 42-43 ft AFS Saturday or Sunday.

If the sandbags and dikes break, he's going to have a very close encounter.

They already can't use the sewer system in the area.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

eep Daniel! I hope he has an escape plan. Last time I was in a flood the waters kept rising long after the rain stopped.

Yeah, the rain stopped a couple of days ago, this is mostly just seasonal, with some bad timing and extra quick warm-up.

He says there were sandbagging volunteers sleeping in their cars this morning everywhere around him, and his wife and he were making lunch for volunteers as we spoke.

What a mess. Apparently volunteers in the area filled 500,000 sandbags in one day this week.

Yikes! Does he have another 100 gallon barrel for waste? Either way, I hope the water calms down for him (and everyone). The news reports make it out to be crazy, but the level of community involvement is beautiful. I heard high schools being closed so the kids can help sandbag, and things like that.

ImemeN, Due to the cold snap here, I finally read the manual to the programmable thermostat I installed last weekend. LOVE! It was nice to leave it on all night, not wasting energy, and to wake up to a warmish apartment. Best $40 spent in awhile!

unintentional serial: t rant

Catching up on a few TiVo'd items. Watching Smallville. Two, count them TWO severe weather interruptions, both right at pivotal plot points. Ya, those folks living 3 counties north of me should be warned. But. WAH!

Unintentional bacon & eggs:

Observation: not all bacon is created equal. Cheap store brand bacon apparently substitutes some of the meat for salt, equal amounts in weight. So not worth the savings.

True, that, omnis. Do you have a Whole Foods near you? Their applewood smoked bacon is delish.

In general, regardless of price or brand, smoke cured bacon is going to be better tasting and better for you than salt cured bacon. And taste less like a salt lick.

Oh thank goodness. Others! And not in the island Others way. I've never had the thread to myself for hours like this before. Well. Not during daylight hours at least. It was spooky.
