A while back, we were talking about apples and applesauce. I have two oldish apples that should be used. Are they good for sauce, or should applesauce be made from fresher apples? Anyone have a recipe/suggestion (or is it something basic like cut up apples, add water and sugar, simmer)

It's pretty much that basic, Vortex. I don't know for sure, but I would guess using oldish apples for sauce would be fine, possibly even preferable.

I would think so too, saucing was probably a way to use old apples.

Huh, no one has popped up with actual knowledge? Surprising.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Vortex, we made it last weekend. We cut them up, simmered them in just a little bit of water for about a half hour (maybe less time for only a couple of apples). Then you can either run them in the food processor or the food mill and spice/sweeten to taste.

"We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?"

Much ~ma for your sister, Connie.

We're going with 'Susan' for the walker. We realised it covers three fandoms - with Ivanova, Sto-Helit and Pevensie (I think it was WindSparrow who didn't like going to a Narnia place with Susan, but it was my first fandom, so I'm good with that). So Susan she is. I look forward to giving a different answer every time someone asks why.

Today in my evening class, we were taught about feminism - very badly. I tried not to laugh or correct the teacher. I should have realised that taking a sociology class, even if not in my area of expertise, was inevitably going to involve occasional sniggering behind my laptop. Much like Shir in her classes, only less angry. I don't care enough about this class to be angry. (I do wish its essay deadline wasn't the day after my dissertation deadline though. Guess which one will get prioritised?)

Edit, because apparently that's not how you spell Pevensie. Who knew?

If I have neither food processor or food mill, do you have an alternate suggestion? Will a blender work? Potato masher? Prayer?

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

Once you've cooked chopped apples, they're pretty close to chunky applesauce as they are. A potato masher would work. A blender would probably work, but the result might be more of a puree than you'd want.
