What are some good neighborhoods that I can look for places on Craigslist for?
I've always said that if I move to SF, I want to live in North Beach. But that's mostly because it's where all of the bars I know are (not counting the Castro, of course, but that's crazy expensive).
Tom and I are fully indulging in a fantasy that we will move to San Francisco in 2010. What are some good neighborhoods that I can look for places on Craigslist for?
You can live in my attic!
I don't cared that she found out-- that was kind of the point of the experiment. I don't care that she told our small circle of friends. I do, however, care that she didn't listen to what I was trying to say and dismissed what she did hear as if I was trying to make up some sort of cheap excuse to cover my ass.
I'd be annoyed too.
But that's mostly because it's where all of the bars I know are (not counting the Castro, of course, but that's crazy expensive).
North Beach ain't much cheaper. I'm liking Polk Gulch - bars are good, eating's good, and it's relatively central to everything.
Nora, Hayes Valley (Dark Garden! Absinthe! Citizen Cake!) and the Mission (Pirate supply store! Paxton Gate! Borderlands!Tons of art galleries and funky bars and rambly overcrowded bookshops!) and Cole Valley/Inner Sunset (Eos! The Booksmith! The park and the museums and Matilda!).
A friend of mine recently moved to Dogpatch and really likes it, but I haven't been to visit her yet so I don't know first hand.
I think you might like the Duboce Triangle area, Nora.
It's between the Lower Haight (Toronado) and the Castro with a big park and lots of trees.
But it really kind of depends on a variety of things and what y our priorities are. Do you want to be close to a main Muni line so you guys can work downtown? Want a neighborhood that's quiet and treelined or sunny, or you can tolerate fog if it's close to GG Park? That kind of thing.
I can lead you guys around a few spots if you like.
Hey Barb! Matilda got a package from Jacksonville today.
Can I be admitty-type lady?
I *loathe* giving Emeline a bath. Like, out of all the mom things, it's the one I hate most.
There. I'm a bad mom.
Baths stress me out, too, Aims. The kids tend to fight over bath toys and getting them out is like pulling teeth. Then there is the mess to clean up.
I admit, I don't bathe mine every night for this reason.
Well, the hope is I pass my comps, we get rid of a LOT of crap in our house, and Tom finds an awesome job- then I can look around for something, and then we can hopefully figure out what the best move is from there.
I am intrigued by the Lower Haight due to its proximity to the Toronado. (great minds think alike, Hec, that's the first neighborhood I looked at on CL.)
I don't know where this is coming. I think it's because we are so excited for our trip out there and we are both frustrated and annoyed at our current jobs, and are not feeling great about prospects here in the future (that might not be a true feeling, but it's our headspace.)
The only things that make me hesitate are the financial situation of CA as well as the fact, well, the whole Proposition 8 thing. There's a unquantifiable attachment to living in a region that has legalized gay marriage. I know that probably sounds dumb, though. These are 2 relatively minor, yet niggling, concerns.
I'm so restless. I've lived my entire life in a 100 mile radius. (whatever Hartford CT to Salem MA is.) I know also that Tom wants to live out there, has since moving to the US.
ION, who's got two thumbs and got to go out for cheeseburgers with Ellen S.? THIS GUY!
