Spike's Bitches 44: It's about the rules having changed.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
I think I broke something trying to keep my eyes from rolling out of my head and my lips from not forming the words, "You're a jerk."
I was half expecting that to be "polar bear" instead of "jerk".
I have decided this is Burrito Week and just had a chorizo burrito which was FULL OF WIN.ha! Too funny, because I learned last night, the band we had for TOMMY, and who were recording music for our next show WON the Chipotle contest. I guess it was make a video with "your burrito" ingredients, if your video wins, they will put your burrito on the menu and name it after you, and you win $10,000. AND THEY WON! Just in time too, now they can pay off the studio for the new CD they are releasing Friday.
Here is the YouTube of their video: [link]
I'm sorry, erin. May something even spiffier come along for you.
People who teach at the elementary level, I have a question. My assumption has been that you will not be handed a complete curriculum and told "teach this." Rather, that teachers have to plan out the year, and units, and there will be textbooks provided, and standards to meet, but that's more or less it. Does this track with others' experience?
My students today were all "I'll teach what my administrator tells me to teach," as an extension of "I just won't teach anything controversial, so I won't have to deal with diversity issues."
Well, Debet, what if they just use an example in class (I mean, they're not told EVERY DAY exactly what to teach!) and someone goes home and tells their parent, and suddenly that's something controversial? It's not always the things you think will be...especially if you're teaching a class that has kids with parents who aren't exactly how you were raised, be that fundie Christians or immigrants from other countries, or whatever...
Debet, this is highly variable. Some school districts do have a set curriculum that everyone is required to teach to. Sometimes it is as detailed as day-by-day. (There is currently a huge controversy about this in the town I used to inhabit, about a Scott-Foresman reading curriculum for primary.) I suspect there is always *some* room for flexibility/supplementation, but there certainly are set curricula in some areas.
Lewis just texted me that he just watched Dhani Harrison playing Beatles Rock Band in the presentation at his conference. Said he looks just like George.
Totally not jealous. Nope. Not a bit.
"But do they want yellow? Hell no!"
IOmemememeN I love this dress: [link] I think it might even look pretty good on me, but even if it were not precisely flattering, it is so gorgeous that wearing it would make me feel fabulous. Alas, I have neither a good reason to acquire it nor the extra money lying around to justify buying it "just because".
Ima go play the lottery.
Shiny dress!
