Death is your art. You make it with your hands day after day. That final gasp, that look of peace. And part of you is desperate to know: What's it like? Where does it lead you? And now you see, that's the secret. Not the punch you didn't throw or the kicks you didn't land. She really wanted it. Every Slayer has a death wish. Even you.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Because books.

My parents' anniversary is Valentine's Day, which is not as romantic-schmoopy as it sounds: they were engaged, but hadn't set a date yet when my aunt called off her VDay wedding. My parents decided to go ahead and use the hall and church, etc., because my dad was going to Scotland for a year with the Navy, so.

It was 45 years yesterday. But they never go out to celebrate, for the precise reason that it's always crowded and chaotic. Friends invited them for dinner last night instead. And my mom said, when I called, "Yeah, it's 45 years. We're thinking this may work out."

Heh. Best of luck to those crazy kids!

Also, I approve of their practical-ness wrt not letting the arrangements go to waste!

Yeah, they're pretty cute together. My mom actually worked part-time at bridal boutique, too, so she got a dress easily. It did seem to be one of those meant-to-be things.

I am envious of your new bed. We recently realized our mattress dates back to when I was pregnant with Jake -- which was seventeen years ago. Ugh.

This is the first bed we've bought together. I got a new pillowtop mattress when I moved to Brighton- it was only seven years ago, but a couple years ago we realized that the pillowtop was getting all weird and molded and funky and uncomfortable. We swapped it out for Tom's 10 year old queen mattress, which was OK, but not great. Then the bed frame he bought broke a few weeks ago, and we'd been talking about getting a king size because the cats take up a lot of space and it can be disruptive to our sleep.

So we did it IKEA style, which was still a chunk of change, (thank you larger than anticipated tax refund!) but looking at king size beds and mattresses at other places puts everything in perspective quickly.

This is the bed we got and this is the mattress. We also got this, the slatted bed base to go with it.

Thank god we were able to get a set of sheets on sale for $9.99!

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Happy Belated Anniversary to Deena and Greg!!!

I spent every Valentine's Day alone until I met TCG. To me it's not about the money spent or stuff, but a day to make sure I tell him how much I appreciate him, although I try to do that all the time anyway. Plus, I will take any excuse to dress up, go out for a nice dinners, and get TCG to wear a tie. I'm sorry if my mentioning our Vaentine's Day upset anyone.

FWIW, when I was single. I used Valentine's Day as an excuse to treat myself to a special day.

FWIW, I'm not upset in the slightest. My views on Valentine's Day, weddings, and diamond engagement rings (not the blood diamond thing, just how lame it is that they are the standard for engagement) are fairly outlier and I understand that.

I'm glad you had a nice day. Everyone should have nice days like that every once in a while!

Jesus, sj, you don't have to apologize for Valentine's Day.

are fairly outlier and I understand that.

Not around here. There's a lot of Valentine resentment hereabouts.

But I'm all for: sex, chocolate, strawberry tarts shaped like hearts, "I Choo-Choo-Choo Choose You," champagne and fancy dinners out, kissing and holidays that celebrate those things.

We celebrated Valentine's Day with cupcakes. I got four different kinds. Matilda selected the chocolate one with the red candy heart on top. Emmett took the one with pink coconut frosting (while loudly bemoaning that Matilda got first pick). JZ had the lemon cupcake with a little tiny frosting bee with almond sliver wings. And I had the chocolate with fleur de sel and a butterscotch core in the middle. They all had some kind of mousse or filling in them which was delicious.

ooh, we had cupcakes yesterday too! Not as fancy as your, but still delicious. I had a chocolate sour cream cupcake with chocolate espresso buttercream frosting and Tom had an orange rum cupcake with vanilla buttercream and candied orange on top. Yum! Excellent reward after getting the bed put together.

I'm all for those things to but don't like waiting for a specific day to do them.

My personal opinion is that V-Day doesn't celebrate those things, it commercializes them and sets up crazy expectations. However, I'm glad that you were able to find a way to celebrate it without that baggage, and I know a lot of people do also.

More cereal:

Also bear in mind that I also hate Christmas as a holiday. I'm not crazy about New Years and Halloween either. So, you know, I've got all sorts of cranky going on all year round.

Holidays I do like: Thanksgiving, Cinco de Mayo, and 4th of July.

Am neutral on: Memorial Day, Labor Dabor, and Easter.
