Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

having a stare-down with Hitler,

The polite term for cats that look like Hitler is "Kitler."

Are y'all wondering what wackiness PETA has been up to these days?

Sea Kitten State Park - where humans and sea kittens (read: fish) live in harmony.

That's the idea behind the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' latest campaign, anyway.

PETA sent a letter to California State Parks Director Ruth Coleman on Wednesday offering to pay to keep Pescadero State Beach open, but only if it is renamed Sea Kitten State Beach.

Pescadero State Beach is among the 219 state parks slated for closure under Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's plan to close a $26.3 billion deficit.

The term "sea kitten" is an effort to evoke the same sympathy for fish that people feel for cats and dogs, according to PETA Manager of Campaigns Lindsay Rajt.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Oh my God. I thought the "sea kitten" thing was people mocking PETA.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Yeah, except that Sea Kitten gives me more of a Baywatch vibe, and with PETA's record on these issues making Hooters look good?

No, it's PETA mocking itself. As well as common sense.

Also, did you know that in WWII, the Germans trained fish to attack ships with explosives? They were called Sea Kitlers.

OK, that's probably not true.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

Heck, I don't actually remember the Challenger

I do. We were running late getting out the door (missed the school bus, so Mother was driving us in), and she was watching it on the TV in the kitchen. They'd watched every shuttle launch, and had a picture of a shuttle on the dining room wall.

My parents were somber about it.

I, being in my Young Radical Stage remember being angry at the public for caring more about the astronauts than about the mortality rate among street workers and the homeless. (To be fair to my young, radical self, I'd been steeped in Streetwise and the activity of the Green River Killer for ages by then, and it colored my views. Eventually, I got over it.)

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

Oh nice. Jimmy Carter has cut ties with the Southern Baptist Convention:

"This view that women are somehow inferior to men ... has provided a reason or excuse for the deprivation of women's equal rights across the world for centuries. The male interpretations of religious texts and the way they interact with, and reinforce, traditional practices justify some of the most pervasive, persistent, flagrant and damaging examples of human rights abuses. ... It is simply self-defeating for any community to discriminate against half its population. ... The justification of discrimination against women and girls on grounds of religion or tradition, as if it were prescribed by a Higher Authority, is unacceptable."

I could not possibly love this man any more. I started tearing up reading the article: [link]
