have you heard of blondies?
Yes. And knew them intimately while growing up in DC. I think this is another case of the hopeless dorkitude of your office, not a regional problem at all.

Well, I offered them to five different people, who grew up in a bunch of different places (all in the US), and only one of them knew what they were.
Know of them and now I want of them. Or something.
Seriously? No one knew what Blondies were? Huh.
People who did not know what they were: one grew up in Maryland, one in Virginia, one in Alabama and Seattle, one all over the place but mostly North Carolina and New Orleans.
I know what they are and wish I could have one right now.
Of course, I discovered them in a cookbook - not from family tradition.
I don't think I remember ever having them at home, but they were definitely a staple of bake sales and Girl Scout meetings.
I love blondies. As a kid I never understood what the appeal was since in my head blondies were just brownies missing the chocolate. Then a friend made me a batch of the simplest, most delicious blondies ever. And I understood. And asked her for the recipe, of course!
I've never had one. Are they yellow cake or white or what?

They're chewy like brownies, but the flavoring is vanilla instead of chocolate.
