What was the point of saying Jesus in all the different languages? It seemed odd to me, but I don't really have the context to figure out what he meant by it.

I honestly thought he was trying to make it more inclusive. And Islam does hold Jesus as an ancestral figure, same as Abraham, as far as I know, but using that to lead into the Lord's Prayer is what rubbed me the wrong way, because it's just so expressly and explicitly Christian -- as opposed to praying to god in general and just wrapping up with the "father, son, holy spirit" or similar.

I didn't watch Warren's speech or Lowery's. If prayer in public school is a violation of church/state separation, we shouldn't have it at Inauguration either. Period.

Absolutely. I am mostly reacting to the relative amount of "real estate" given in the prayer. I don't think there's any way you invite a Christian minister to pray and expect that he's not giving a Christian prayer.

I'd love the day when we could have religious figures present or not and have it be no big deal, but not REQUIRED. Me, I'd like a circle of leaders from many faiths as well as a non-faith humanist all wishing me well before I took the oath, but you know, I'd never want to be a politician.
