Now tagless for your comfort.

I think our pick up is local (and since we're in a very small town) it shouldn't be a huge hassle. I'm going to call the contact and see what the deal is.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Cash, we love our CSA (*not* SCA!), and I'm pretty sure Hil and Jessica have both done them in the past, although I don't know if they're doing them this season. I'd try to get a better sense of what they grow, beyond "the usual variety of veggies" -- the ones around here will all give you a list, but then we're in a somewhat saturated CSA market; if that's the only one in your area, they may just not have a lot of marketing materials prepped. Also, they should be upfront about their policies if you have to miss a pickup, etc (for comparison, I forfeit if I just don't show up, but I can get a double share the week before or after if I let them know about a vacation or suchlike a week in advance) -- you are paying for stuff upfront, so you can't just ditch your box of veggies, but it's fair to expect good customer service.

Policies are a little different at each one; you may have just a box of whatever, or you may have some choice; some have add-on items like meat or eggs in addition to veg boxes. But whatever the policies, they should feel like good people to work with. After all, the idea is bringing them and you together.

(OMG I can apparently tl;dr at the drop of a hat when it comes to CSA.)

I joined one with a friend this year, but it hasn't started yet; the first pick-up is next week.

...I have to remember not to buy too many fruits & veggies this weekend.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I really wish I had a neighbor to split a share with -- I know it would be too much alone, and the logistics would be too much of a hassle with someone non-local, I think. I was pleased to see flyers for our local one up in Spanish the other week.

The one I'm looking at offers half shares.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

I dislike Lady Gaga's name. All I see is gag.

All we hear is
Lady-O Gaga
Lady-O Googoo

Yeah, I think my one here didn't. Or it still seemed like potentially too much? I forget -- I didn't really look into it this year.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I did a CSA last year. The pickup was a pain, but I liked it. (I'm not doing it this year mostly because of the pickup being a pain -- it's at least a 20 minute walk each way, with no reasonable public transit.)

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I'm catching my friend's CSA while she's in Europe for three weeks. It'll be interesting to see how much I do something with and how much ends up composted (my friend mostly wanted to make sure the farmer didn't end up having to take her share back home again).
