Spike? It's you. It's really you! My therapist thought I was holding on to false hope, but…I knew you'd come back. You're like…you're like Gandalf the White, resurrected from the pit of the Balrog, more beautiful than ever. Oh…he's alive Frodo. He's alive.

Why did she do this?

For good luck. My DH does this (and insists I do, too, now). I usually humor him, but then start naming all sorts of animals, e.g. "rabbit rabbit beagle beagle hippo hippo bear bear tarantula tarantula...", until he tells me to stop. Hee.

Because books.

Perkins, Cherry Ames was a series of books of the same vintage (or a little later) as the original Nancy Drew, but Cherry was a nurse. So there was Cherry Ames, Student Nurse, and Cherry Ames, Private Duty Nurse, and Cherry Ames, Cruise Nurse, etc.

Trixie Belden was another girl sleuth.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

White Plainsians would not consider their city upstate, since the emotional/fiscal ties are with NYC (not Albany). We're snobs that way.

That's as much geography as snobbishness, though -- it's really not upstate.

Did nobody else read the Beany Malone books? I loved them.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I remember Beany!

Upstate is everything that's not NYC or Westchester (i.e., White Plains is not upstate). It was a revelation when I realized that upstate basically wasn't upstate, but, rather, most of the state.

One of my co-workers has a complete collection of Beany Malone in her office and at home.

Buffalo peeps would not consider themselves upstate, but western NY.

I've been mocked by a non-NYC type for calling Poughkeepsie upstate, so really I think it depends on perspective. Sophia, where do you think upstate starts?

What's the difference between the cheaper Roombas and the crazy expensive ones?

Now that I don't have my amazing cleaners, I need to get something for my carpets. I have 1 Qashqa'i and 2 Moroccan with almost no pile, so I'm wondering if I can get away with a carpet sweeper. My main problem is I don't really have the space to store a bigger vaccuum.

Beany was fun. I loved those books.

Up here (Syracuse environs) it's never referred to as upstate, but as Central New York. *I* consider it upstate, though. Hell, it's practically in Canada.
