I was just reading a short article about how there have been no fatal big plane crashes in the US in 7 or so years, so maybe the streak is continuing!

Scary stuff about that plane! I was a kid when Flight 191 went down at O'Hare--the photo at that link has been burned in my memory since then.

I didn't fly again for almost 10 years, and I white-knuckled it the whole way. I had been a very sanguine flyer before that.
They're interviewing one of the passengers on CNN -- he's sure that everyone got out OK.

That happened to me with TWA 800, which was my standard transatlantic for years.
