Am I the only one who never learned the word spondee? Doesn't even look like a real word, people. Spondaic, on the other hand...
I like it. Spondee. Spondee, spondee, spondee. Hey, my spellchecker doesn't like it. And spondee isn't a spondee. Also, it sounds like an insult.
I had teacher Mr. Sponberg in highschool - we called him Spondee sometimes. That's all it means to me, never heard it for anything else.
I'm partial to dipthong, myself. Sounds like an aboriginal musical instrument. Spondee sounds like the fabric used to make racing swimsuits and control undergarments.
Why does my TIVO say "Preview of the New Series LIE TO ME" and the NOT have a preview, but merely give me recording options. I WANT THE GD PREVIEW!
ok, bed.
love. now see. that is love.
Okay in my head I can hear the difference between ma-CHURE, ma-CHER, and ma-TURE, but not the difference between tee-VEE and TEE-vee. Am I being dumb?
I am a being of love.
No - the first is a clear pronunciation difference and the second is just a stress difference. The different stress between TEE-vee and tee-VEE doesn't change the sound of the word the way the difference in stress between harASSment and HARassment, for example, changes the actual sound of the word, so maybe that's the difference... that you're not hearing.
Not entirely sure what I just said, but it made sense in my brain.
I think the real question here is, did you know the word spondee before? (Like a dog with a bone, I am.)
