I just found The Proclaimers cover of "King of the Road" in our itunes. It's so darling I want to bite my toes. It's pretty faithful to the original version but the accents are at the same time so beautiful and so wrong.

College Rock? Post-Punk?
I don't think the term "Alternative" was in use during their heyday....
I think I've heard them labeled as Folk-Punk back in the day.

I'm working on a new song feature for a 2010 textbook and the first chapter is about Louise Attaque and I want to say their name comes from the fact they are fans of the [musical genre] group Violent Femmes.
American Indie is probably good, because it also reflects that what was called "alternative" in the 80s and 90s was called "indépendant" in France.
Close enough. You could also go for American Indie.
I think they prefer "Native Alternitan"
