Oh Miss Erin? Are you feeling better enough to schlep to Lawrence Kansas on a Sunday night?
tUB rING will be playing. And I love them. I love them. I love them so. www.myspace.com/tubring
The first time I saw them they were opening for LeATHERMØUTH and Mindless Self Indulgence. They had toured with Mindless before, but not much of the crowd really knew them. They started playing and within a minute the place went INSANE.
The second time I saw them was the next day. I bummed a ride with a friend to the next show, missed the headliner so I could catch the last train home, and went to work on Monday on three hours sleep. TOTALLY WORTH IT.
I was about to send this to my mom, thinking someone had posted it here when I realized she had sent it to me. Score one for Mom! Piano greats.
I just found The Proclaimers cover of "King of the Road" in our itunes. It's so darling I want to bite my toes. It's pretty faithful to the original version but the accents are at the same time so beautiful and so
wrong.
And I hope everyone saw this by now.
What Shir said. Brilliant stuff.
I heard about that on
YouTube
NPR. How cool!
What mainstream term would one use to categorize Violent Femmes? Alternative Rock?
College Rock? Post-Punk?
I don't think the term "Alternative" was in use during their heyday....
I think I've heard them labeled as Folk-Punk back in the day.

Close enough. You could also go for American Indie.
This is for current college students.
I'm working on a new song feature for a 2010 textbook and the first chapter is about Louise Attaque and I want to say their name comes from the fact they are fans of the [musical genre] group Violent Femmes.
American Indie is probably good, because it also reflects that what was called "alternative" in the 80s and 90s was called "indépendant" in France.
